Egg Tempera Workshop

Starts 26 Jul
90 British pounds
Long House Studios

What to expect

Come and enjoy a day exploring painting in egg tempera. Before the invention of oil paints in the fifteenth century artists used a variety of other binders to create paint. One such binder is egg yolk, which creates a very durable and beautiful medium, called egg tempera. Egg tempera is simple to make, using pure pigment and egg yolk, is thinned with water, and is fast drying. It has been used for thousands of years, reaching it's peak in the early Italian Renaissance. The beauty of egg tempera painting is it's luminosity and the way it can be layered to create deeply coloured surfaces. This workshop will teach you how to make egg tempera and offer you the opportunity to explore it's particular characteristics. We will look at the work of contemporary artists who use egg tempera aswell as examples from the past. Beginners and more experienced artists are very welcome. The cost includes eggs and papers, but you will need to bring your own pigments. If you sign up you will get more details and information about this.
