Figure in a Landscape
What to expect
We are delighted that the artist Julian Vilarrubi has agreed to run a summer week in 2025. Julian writes: "Figure in a Landscape" is a course designed to explore the integration of the human figure within natural or urban landscapes. In painting, artists have often placed the figure in the landscape in order to add engagement, dynamism and context. The presence of a figure can transform a static landscape into an image with meaning, adding narrative elements and creating connections and associations between the two. This course will combine on-site observational drawing with studio work. Students will develop their ideas with the model in the studio and within the landscape itself. They will enhance their artistic skills by learning approaches to initiating and developing ideas and will be encouraged to explore personal narratives within their work, fostering a deeper understanding of the interplay between humans and nature. Looking at artist examples as starting points this course focuses on composition, scale, expression and mood using a number of techniques and approaches to reach conclusive pieces. The course is suitable for all levels.
