Long House Studios

What to expect

This is a five week course on 5 consecutive Fridays (with a break for half term on Nov 1st), starting on Friday October 4th Long House Studios is in the depths of the countryside and being here is to experience the weather! The English weather has been an inspiration to generations of artists, Turner famously saying that artists working in Britain have the advantage of constantly changing weather and skies, adding drama to the landscape and requiring nimbleness of thought and action. On this course you will look at a wide range of artists for whom the weather has been a source of inspiration and explore different approaches to depicting the weather. Each week you will be presented with a new challenge, investigating the effects of markmaking and scale, speed and control, and different painting and drawing media. The course will progress in response to the discoveries and ideas of the participants. This course is suitable for anyone who enjoys a creative challenge!
