Mad about Drawing!
What to expect
This is a five week course on 5 consecutive Fridays starting on Friday January 10th Start the new year with five days devoted to drawing. Drawing from life is the foundation of all visual creativity, training the eye to see, to notice, to transpose what you see onto paper, to discover your own visual responses and language. This course will be an intensive exploration of drawing, with reference to inspiring artists of the past and present. You will experiment, challenge yourself, slow down and learn to look, adjust and look again. Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Gogh, Kathe Kollwitz, Vanessa Bell, Frank Auerbach, Leon Kosoff and Paula Rego - among others - will inspire and inform us as we experiment with media, scale, and gesture. You will learn to reflect on your work and improve it until your drawings take on a life of their own and become works of art to be proud of. Each week you will be presented with a new challenge encouraging you to work in unfamiliar materials, at different scales, or with a new approach. The course will aim to bounce you out of the tendency to fall into a routine way of working, and reboot your curiosity and excitement about drawing! It will progress in response to the ideas and energy of the participants, so anything could happen! This course is suitable for anyone who enjoys a creative challenge.
