Spring Landscape Week
What to expect
Surrounded by the fells and dry stone walls, blossoming hawthorn and roadside daffodils, of the beautiful Kentmere valley in spring, this course will offer you the opportunity to develop ways to communicate your own personal response to the landscape. Whether your focus is the sweeping skies and receding hills, or the more intimate complexity of hedgerow and meadow, you will be challenged to explore a range of media, learning to exploit their characteristics and to find those that suit your practice. Taking inspiration from the great landscape artists of the Lakes and other upland landscapes, such as Sheila Fell, Winifred Nicholson, Beatrix Potter, JMW Turner and William Gillies, we will start the week with lots of sketching en plein air, finding our own way to gather visual material for more sustained and ambitious work towards the end of week. 1:1 tuition and group discussions are central to this course which should equip you to approach landscape drawing with renewed freedom and excitement. This course is suitable for everyone - beginners to experienced artists. Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for being outdoors. We will try not to let the weather deter us.
