Words and Images Week - July

  • Starts 22 Jul
  • 450 British pounds
  • Long House Studios

What to expect

This is an innovative course for artists and writers and all those in between. We have developed it as a result of a fascinating week we had last summer in which a writer, encouraged by a friend, came to dip her toe into the Experimental Drawing Week. She loved it, and was particularly fascinated by the relationship between writing and drawing, suggesting a course which explored both. After much discussion and excitement have developed this course together, and hope that it will be as inspiring for you as it has been for us. Each day will present a new challenge, moving between drawing and writing, considering the differences and similarities between how we use our senses and perceptions to draw and to write. We will consider how many artists have also been writers whilst others use text in their imagery. This is a course for anybody, those with experience of either discipline and those with none. You will be led through a series of unthreatening and fun activities and there will be plenty of time for 1:1 support and group discussion. The course will be taught by Louise Sturgis and Rachel Crowther Rachel Crowther is a novelist who lives in Oxford but has had a lifelong association with the Lake District, where one of her books is largely set. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Oxford Brookes, has published three novels in her own name, and one (with another forthcoming in March 2024) under the pseudonym Rachel Hancox.
