A Day of Printmaking
What to expect
For young artists of secondary school age. Come and enjoy a day of printmaking - monoprint, linocut, drypoint. The day will start with an introduction to different printmaking techniques and their characteristics. Participants will then spend the morning experimenting with monoprint, much loved by Degas and Gaugin. It is a very spontaneous and versatile form of printmaking and a great introduction to the idea that your work can evolve as the result of unexpected outcomes and happy accidents. In the afternoon each participant will be able to choose whether to do a linocut or a drypoint - both more controlled and deliberate techniques with very different characteristics. Those working towards GCSE or A Level portfolios will be able to make prints to enhance their coursework if they want to. Everyone is welcome regardless of previous experience. Printmaking is a fun and experimental process and you will go home with several prints of different kinds. The group will be small to allow for plenty of 1:1 help and space to work. Materials will be provided, but students will need to bring a packed lunch. The course will be taught by Louise Sturgis who has many years of experience in teaching artists of all ages. Everyone will get individual support and teaching. Louise has an up to date DBS check.
