Long House Studios Young Artists

1:1 mentoring

1:1 mentoring is an ideal solution for those of you who would like to have a regular session in which to discuss your work.  I can offer you an online, monthly 'tutorial' in which we can consider your practice and exchange ideas about ways forward. How the sessions work can be designed specifically for you, but usually you share images of the month's work with me prior to your tutorial and then on the day we can talk through any problems, potential solutions, artists who might be inspiring for you, techniques and so on.

This can be a real boost to independent work, providing a gentle deadline and a useful sounding board for you to try out ideas and air creative concerns.

Artist Residency Retreats

May and June 2025

Would you like to spend a week living and working in our new Garden Studio?

This is an opportunity for artists who would like to work independently in the Long House Garden Studio and make the most of the stunning landscape of Kentmere.

The residency costs £100 per day and you would need to be here for a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 14. This includes the sole use of the large garden studio, which will also be where you live.

The Garden Studio comprises a large well equipped, light studio, with tons of space for making work (easels, tables, drawing boards and the potential use of a printing press by arrangement). There is a woodburning stove, sofabed, fridge, basic cooking facilities (microwave, hotplate, kettle etc) and belfast sink. There is an adjacent wetroom and secluded garden.

You would need to bring your own materials.

There is no wifi, but in an emergency there is some nearby. There is mobile signal if you are on EE. Otherwise you have to climb a hill!

There are two other working studios in other outbuildings, so you will be part of a hive of creative activity!

It would be possible for two people to share the space if they were comfortable with living and working in one large room.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send an email to louise@longhousestudios.org with the following information.

  • 5 images of your work

  • a short statement explaining why you would like to spend a week at Long House Studios and how you would like to use the time

  • your preferred dates – between May 1st and June 30th

We look forward to hearing from you.
