Autumn Landscape Painting
What to expect
This is a five day oil (or acrylics) painting course. The course is suitable for every level of experience, each participant starting from where they are and developing their work at their own pace. September can be one of the most beautiful months in Kentmere. The colours start to turn and the heavy greens of August give way to russets and ochres of Autumn. The week will start with an overview of landscape painting as a genre, looking at and analysing the landscapes of painters familiar with Cumbria and other upland terrain (Sheila Fell, Sir Kyffin Williams, and Winifred Nicholson among others). You will explore different approaches to the landscape (drawing in different media, painting en plein air and in the studio from sketches) and learn about colour palettes and underpainting techniques. By the end of the week you will have several paintings to take home with you and a greater understanding of the challenges specific to landscape painting. 1:1 tuition and group discussions are central to this course which should equip you to approach landscape painting with renewed freedom and excitement. This course is suitable for everyone - beginners to experienced artists. Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for being outdoors. We will try not to let the weather deter us.
