Buildings in the Landscape
What to expect
This course will be led by Louise Sturgis and is a drawing and painting course. Do you enjoy drawing buildings and how they sit in the landscape? Kentmere is full of wonderful and eccentric farm buildings, some dating back more than 500 years, each one located to withstand the wild winter weather by our canny ancestors. How they nestle into the landscape and how their walls and rooves have settled over time into sculptural forms, is a fascinating subject. On this course we will find different buildings each day and spend our time drawing and painting the juxtaposition of man made and natural, focusing on the angles and textures of building and landscape, taking inspiration from the many artists who have been fascinated by this subject, from Kyffin Williams to Shelia Fell. We will be outside most of the week, although there are sheltered spots we can retreat to, so please bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear and a bag to carry your materials. If mobility is an issue please drop me a line. There are ways and means! Most locations can be driven to or near if necessary.
