Drawing Trees with Nick Bush
What to expect
Nick Bush will return to Long House Studios to run this course, a lovely opportunity to be outside in the beautiful landscape of Kentmere. Every time I run a landscape course people say they find drawing trees so difficult. They are a challenge! How to draw or paint trees that have form and solidity whilst also describing their individual shapes and the texture of their foliage is not easy. This will be two days immersed in the beauty of trees. Behind Long House Studios is an eight acre wood, full of the most amazing and varied trees, including a giant and beautiful 'champion sycamore'. In the bottom of the valley are the windswept, slightly stunted trees that withstand the blast of the winter weather. Down beside the mere are the drooping, gentler shapes of the willows beside the water. You will look at the masters of drawing trees from Rembrandt to Moore and consider media and approach; the effect of working at different scales; and how to depict trees as part of a landscape as well as beautiful beings in their own right. By the end of the course you will have experimented with many ways of drawing trees and return home with renewed confidence and inspiration! This course is suitable for all abilities. Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for being outdoors.
