Easter Etching, from Drawing to Print NEW
What to expect
We are very excited to have persuaded printmaker Catherine Greenwood to come and teach this four day etching course at Long House Studios. Catherine is an experienced and sensitive teacher who has developed a safe, low impact process, making etching much more eco and user friendly. (See our Tutor's page for more information about Catherine) This is a four day course suitable for beginner printmakers as well as those with more experience. You will return home with some beautiful prints, including a 'final print' on quality handmade paper from our local papermakers, The Paper Foundation Over the four days you will be guided through the process of; drawing from observation and developing your ideas and compositions on paper; preparing the plate with soft or hard ground; transcribing your imagery onto the plate before etching; using sugar lift and aquatint to add tone and texture; inking up and printing. In spare moments between processes you will be able to do more sketching, have a go at a drypoint print, or work on any plates you might from home. Please don't be put off by the idea of printmaking being 'complicated'. It is FUN, and the results are always spectacular. Come and have a go. You will need to bring a sketchbook and materials for outdoor drawing. Suitable footwear and clothing for the spring (changeable) weather. Existing plates if you have any. A packed lunch Printmaking materials are expensive. The cost of a copper plate, inks, proofing paper and one sheet of quality handmade paper are included in the course fee, but you will be able to buy additional paper and plates during the week if you wish. Any questions, get in touch.
