From Drawing to Print or Paint

Starts 25 Aug
375 British pounds
Long House Studios

What to expect

Come and enjoy 4 days of in which you will use initial drawings to develop into prints or paintings, or both! You can explore different methods of printmaking (monoprint, drypoint, collagraph and linocut) and their relationship to drawing, finding the techniques that work best for you. And/Or you can develop your own way of using drawings and other collected material (words/photography/gathered natural forms etc) to develop into paintings (oil/acrylic/watercolour). The week will begin with drawing - from the landscape, garden, barns, tool shed or studio - and focus on markmaking, tone, texture , composition and colour. You will also be encouraged to gather material in other ways, making notes, listening to sounds, taking photographs, collecting colours and textures from the landscape. From there we will consider how your drawings and other notes can be translated into prints or paintings. By experimenting with different printmaking and painting techniques you will be encouraged to find the methods that suit you and your imagery most effectively. By the end of the course you will have produced a small portfolio of prints or paintings and have a good understanding of how to use what you have learned for your ongoing artistic practice. As ever, this course will offer opportunities for discussion of each others' work and the work of great artists of the past and present, as well as lots of 1:1 support and tuition. Printing materials will be provided.
