What to expect

This is an outdoor week of landscape sketching using a variety of drawing media, watercolour and pastels. Suitable for all levels of experience. Come and enjoy a week immersed in the beautiful landscape of Kentmere. Here you are surrounded by the high fells, patchworked fields, farm buildings nestled in the hollows, woodland and water. There is always an interesting and inspiring subject, wherever you are in the valley. The course will offer you the opportunity to explore and draw the landscape and to develop ways to communicate your own personal response to it. You will be challenged to explore different media, learning to exploit their characteristics and to find those that best suit your practice. Taking inspiration from the great landscape artists of the Lakes, such as Turner and Constable, Sheila Fell and Winifred Nicholson, we will spend each day in a different location, sketching en plein air, and putting into practice what we have learned about visual language from the artists we look at at the beginning of each day. 1:1 tuition and group discussions are central to this course which should equip you to approach landscape drawing with renewed freedom and excitement.  Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for being outdoors. We will try not to let the weather deter us.
