The Artist's Year, Year 1
What to expect
This is a year long course for those who would like to spend a day a week developing their skills and their creative practice. It will run on Fridays from 10am - 4pm. To be an artist is to balance the development of skills in making art with the discovery or discernment of your own personal, creative voice. This process takes time and cannot happen in a formulaic way. It requires a willingness to experiment, to be courageous, to take risks, to persevere through frustrations and difficulties, to think analytically about your own and others' work, and above all to work hard! Making lots of work is the only way to grow as an artist. The Artist's Year will provide you with the time, support and friendship to do all of these things. Structured around a day a week in three ten week blocks, from October to June, it will include Skills development (drawing, painting, optional printmaking/3D) Exploring and Experimenting with new media, techniques and processes Art History presentations and discussions Developing a personal creative practice Trips to work in other inspiring locations Gallery visits Group Crits and discussions Termly private 1:1 tutorial to discuss progress and next steps Each week you will be encouraged to do some work between sessions, such as keeping a sketchbook, reading, or preparing for the following week.
