What to expect

This is the ideal course for anyone who would like to learn or improve their drawing and painting skills. The summer term in Kentmere is always a joy. Moving from Spring to Summer we will have the opportunity to work outside en plein air as well as in the studio. Our focus for the term will be the landscape, the garden, the flowers and wildlife around us. We will learn about drawing in different materials and on different surfaces. We will explore plein air painting as well as studio painting from sketchbook drawings. We will consider composition, colourmixing, markmaking and the different characteristics of acrylic and oil paint. Each week's session will be rooted in the careful analysis of the work of great artists, past and present, helping us to understand what decisions we need to make to create successful work. The small group will allow for 1:1 guidance and tuition according to individual needs. Everyone is welcome. Perhaps you are a complete beginner, or you have a box of art materials neglected in the cupboard, or you are an enthusiastic artist who would value the impetus of a weekly commitment.
