Walk and Draw Week
What to expect
One of the joys of living and working as an artist in Kentmere is walking in the landscape, experiencing the natural world, the weather, textures, sounds and smells of this beautiful lakeland valley. During the week we will walk (stroll gently!) each day to a different location, carrying sketchbooks and other materials, taking in the terrain and noticing our response to it. We will experiment with different approaches to recording our individual experience of landscape, exploring markmaking and media to produce expressive and inquisitive drawings. Over the course of 5 days you will record your movement through the landscape in a multitude of ways, gathering a wealth of material to use for further work in the studio or just as a record of a week spent immersed in Kentmere. On the last day you will be able to choose whether to work from your drawings in the studio or return by yourself to some of our previous locations to consolidate earlier work. 1:1 tuition and group discussions are central to this course which should equip you to approach landscape drawing with renewed freedom and excitement. This course is suitable for everyone - from beginners to experienced artists. Although we will be walking each day there is lots to see and draw nearby, so we won't need to go far. I will vary routes and locations according to the needs and capabilities of the group, so do not be put off by the idea of 'walking'. We are not climbing any mountains! Do get in touch if you have any concerns about mobility. Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for being outdoors (we will not to let the weather deter us!) and a rucksack for carrying all your materials and lunch.
