What to expect

One of the joys of living and working as an artist in Kentmere is walking its footpaths, experiencing the natural world, the weather, textures, sounds and smells of this beautiful lakeland valley. This course will be a gentle exploration of the landscape, as we wander the byways, carrying sketchbooks and other materials, taking in the terrain and noticing our response to it. We will experiment with different approaches to recording our individual experience of landscape, exploring markmaking and media to produce expressive and inquisitive drawings. By the end of the weekend you will have filled a sketchbook with a record of a particular place, and return home with the confidence to approach landscape drawing with renewed freedom and excitement.  This is a course that is based around walking so it is essential that you are comfortable with walking on uneven terrain. However, we will start gently and only walk as far as is comfortable for the group. After all, this is a drawing course! Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for being outdoors (we will not to let the weather deter us!) and a small rucksack for carrying all your materials and lunch. Suitable for all levels of experience
