Starts 13 Jun 2026
180 British pounds
Long House Studios

What to expect

Watercolour is such an attractive prospect. Not too complicated, not too expensive, easy to manage at home. But so often actually using watercolours can be frustrating and disappointing. It can be so unpredictable and hard to control. But it doesn't have to be scary! In this two day workshop we will start by looking at watercolours by the greatest watercolour artists, noticing their widely differing approaches and techniques. On day one you will learn some basic methods, before being encouraged to approach the medium more boldly, learning to use large blocks of colour to get the painting on the move quickly on day two. We will explore different ways of working : wet on wet and dry techniques, spraying the paper with a fine mist of water and working into slightly damp paper, even squeezing some of the pigment straight onto the paper. Having explored some new working methods you will then be able to create a composition directly from the landscape around the studio. I will be at hand to help you navigate creating a composition and to encourage your own creativity and confidence to flourish.
